James Conway has been since 2002 General Director of English Touring Opera, a London based company producing and touring all over the United Kingdom up to eight productions each year, at all scales and for all ages.
Before that for 15 years he was General Director of Opera Theatre Company, a Dublin based company touring small scale productions to every corner of Ireland, frequently invited to international festivals.
For both companies James Conway has directed many operas, and produced the work of other artists – totaling some 50 productions in Ireland, and roughly the same number in England. In addition, he is a freelance director of theatre and opera, associated with a wide range of companies.
He has commissioned and produced a large number of new chamber operas in Ireland and the UK, and written libretti for three of them. He has also written a number of English language translations of Italian operas.
Here you can find information on his past, present, and future productions in the UK and abroad.
